The food forest is managed by a dedicated group of community members, formalised as a the Food Forest Ashburton Group FFAG. This group operates as a not- for- profit unincorporated community organisation under the auspice of the Craig Family Centre (CFC). The CFC has a special licence issued by Boroondara Council allowing food forest activities to proceed in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Council, CFC and the Lions Club of Boroondara-Gardiners Creek. The MOU details the shared intent and responsibilities of the parties involved.

Membership to the Food Forest Ashburton Group is available for a small annual fee. Membership is not compulsory but is appreciated as it provides support for materials, plants and insurance. FFAG activities include community working bees, workshops (e.g. pruning), management meetings and other activities to support the project such as fundraising and events.
